LAST STAND FOR CALIFORNIA STEM CELL PROGRAM?
Fri Jul 04, 2008 at 06:44:29 AM PDT
Why is a bill attacking California’s beloved stem cell program so close to being passed?
In addition to being part of Republican Senator George Runner’s perpetual attack on embryonic stem cell research, the bill is a farewell gift to Democrat Senator Sheila Kuehl...
WI D.A. Switches From GOP To Dem (Eau Claire County)
Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 01:05:12 PM PDT
Yet another Republican has gone Democratic: the District Attorney for my home county of Eau Claire County in Wisconsin. Rich White, DA in Eau Claire County since 2000, has switched and will run as a Democrat on the fall ballot.

I Am So Proud Of My Mom
Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 11:30:53 AM PDT
In all memories of the last 40 years of my life I can never remember arguing politics with my mother. I guess that is why I grew up to be such a liberal Democrat. However, this year changed everything. From the beginning of 2007 we were divided-her for Hilary Clinton and I for Barack Obama. It seemed every day we argued one point or another. My children would proudly announce every time Obama won another primary and ask her if she was sure she wanted to back Hilary. But she maintained her support for Clinton no matter how bad things looked. I was scared she might be one of those who refused to back him once every one else knew what we knew-Barack Obama would be the nominee. But then she really surprised me...
Hey Obama, don't feel so blue. We still love you.
Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 07:21:28 AM PDT
Yes we do.
No matter how center to the left Senator Obama may get, he still gets my vote and then some.
Doesn't it seem like the media performs these random "flips" in objection? I feel so. If McCain commits a gaffe, they all have to work overtime to find some media-created "dirt" on Senator Obama to object to and cause a flurry over("Obama denies young boy fist bump").
Drugs a country (but not its citizens) can afford.
Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 12:01:48 PM PDT
Most people know that the cost of prescription drugs is going up, and that the drug companies are not hurting despite most business and industries taking a hit in the recent recession. We look at the cost in one county, and the causes nationwide.
For the Love of Money. The McCains.

Candidate Marta - CA 24th District Congressional Race
Tue Jul 01, 2008 at 07:25:43 PM PDT
Hi, my name is Marta Jorgensen, and I'm the Democratic Nominee for U.S. House of Representatives in California's 24th CD.
My opponent, Republican Elton Gallegly, has a long history of ignoring the views and concerns of the people in our district. He is a captive of the special interests and lobbyists who are destroying our country. Gallegly must GO!!!
Defining Core Values of A Progressive
Tue Jul 01, 2008 at 10:11:46 AM PDT
It's something we're not about to do today, or likely tomorrow, or perhaps ever under these circumstances. It might have been easier to have agreed upon some ubiquity of certain core values in the progressive movement if we'd been asked to do it the day after we invaded Iraq. But not now.
FOX News' Bob Beckel: I Smoked Tons of Weed
Tue Jul 01, 2008 at 09:42:40 AM PDT
This morning on FOX & Friends, (which you probably don't watch but are no doubt familiar with) contributor and 'Democratic strategist' Bob Beckel was shown a picture from back in the 80s when he and his friends were in a band.
Bob says that he must admit that he "did inhale back then... a LOT". He then proceeds to go on for about three full minutes making direct references to his pot smoking.
To be honest, I'm not too familiar with Bob Beckel outside his occasional appearances on Hannity & Colmes and other FOX programming. Also, I am a marijuana smoker myself so I'm not putting him down. But the transparency with which he talks about smoking is surprising - have we really reached a point where a contributor to a major network can freely admit their pot use?
What do you think? Watch the clip and weigh in with thoughts -
What About ‘It’s the Economy, Stupid’ is Barack Obama Not Understanding?
Tue Jul 01, 2008 at 04:33:31 AM PDT
While Barack Obama gives a sentimental lecture about Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Patton’s Army, and what the flag means to him in front of the huddled masses yearning to breathe free in small towns and halls named Independence, the senator from Arizona is rising like a Phoenix from the political ashes of the burnt ruins of the Bush-Cheney Administration.
While Obama waxes on about how his grandmother worked on a bomber line during WWII, instead of more pressing issues like the economy and the war, John McCain gets to pretend as if he is the only candidate offering real solutions to the American people on energy reform, taxes, and gas prices.
Although McCain’s proposals are gimmicky (see gas tax holiday) and woefully less progressive than Senator Obama’s plans, it doesn’t come off that way to today’s "low information voter."
Bill Clinton says Barack Obama must 'kiss my ass' for his support
Mon Jun 30, 2008 at 04:44:33 PM PDT
Despite news reports today that Obama talked with Bill Clinton and it was “terrific”, another story about Bill Clinton reports an all-together different attitude.
Barack Obama mus 'kiss my ass'
So you like being in the minority?
Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 07:49:03 PM PDT
Over the past few weeks, Daily Kos has seen a huge number of diaries relating to FISA. A quick search yesterday showed 557 diaries on this issue in the last two weeks, with the overwhelming majority of them against the Act.
What's been interesting in following this is the vehemence of many of the diarists. Promises of withholding donations, letter writing, promises to vote for someone else or not vote at all, and threats of other types of retribution have all made numerous appearances.
Also making an appearance here have been a number of diaries complaining about the "blue dogs" or DINO politicians. These diaries are marked by complaints, promises of electoral defeat at some point, as well as promises to purge the Party of them, to replace them with progressives.
What the diarists are proposing is a course of action to ensure that the progressives will remain a minority. Maybe they like it that way.

A Priest, A Vietnam Veteran and A 10 Year Old Boy Walk Into...
Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 08:01:33 AM PDT
No, not a bar. They all walked into my Barack Obama United for Change party. For those who have not read my previous diaries, I live in a very small, conservative, right wing, Christian town in Georgia. In one of my last diaries I was fighting the bad guys and correcting their smear emails and standing up for the good guys. I received over 300 comments urging me to keep up the good work and try to find others like me. So I volunteered at Obama's site and when the chance came to throw a party with 4,000 other people in this great country, I stepped up and decided to host a house party. I put my invitation on the Obama site and sent invitations to a few like minded friends and waited to see what happened.

Yesterday my stepson, Justus, started a conversation here on Daily Kos and since I’m the candidate he referenced, I thought I’d chime in.
Why Should Obama Cave To Bill and Hillary? He WON - They LOST!
Thu Jun 26, 2008 at 07:08:07 PM PDT
While I respect and at one point, cared a great deal about President Bill Clinton (I still have two of his pictures hanging in my office), I resent what he and Hillary are doing with respects to Senator Barack Obama and his campaign.
They played ‘chicken’ and it appears they may have won.
